Increasing The Convenience Of Learning Languages

Context
Everybody Loves Languages provides English language learning
content delivered to students through a web application.
Problem
The average amount of time spent per week for students was low
as the only way to access course content was on a laptop. The
absence of any student access on mobile was also limiting
parents when it came to checking in on their child’s progress.
Research
The methods used for user research was a combination of user
interviews and direct customer feedback.
I put together a
data visualization showing what were the most asked for capabilities
along with the largest frustrations.
User Survey
User types were divided by role, as different users use the product
for different objectives.

Convenient Progress Access
Insights
Bringing the experience to tablet and mobile devices would allow
students more convenient access to course content at a time that best
suits them.
Additional features were also included such as
the ability for parents to login using their mobile device to check on
their child’s progress, fostering even more encouragement to engage
and complete exercises.
Low Fidelity Wireframes
All the usage to begin with would be on desktop, so the redesign of
the product used the desktop experience as the foundation.
Keeping
simplicity high would help students stay engaged longer, so adjusting
the desktop experience for mobile device screen sizes required having
some limits on the content.
High Fidelity Designs
By limiting the content, questions, and answers, I was able to
eliminate scrolling and increase the consistency between the
experience of each unique exercise.
Takeaway Metrics
Simplifying the mobile experience made the difference in this project,
as students would take their session from the classroom on the go with
them.
Providing convenience with an intuitive user
experience dramatically increased the amount of learning time student
spend on the platform each week.
New User Type
Parents can now easily and conveniently check on their child's
progress.
